This immense and splendid natural reserve protects almost 1000 square kilometers of forests, swamps and undulating meadows. Here, we will have the chance to observe many species of animals such as the unicorn rhino, the royal Bengal tiger and leopards, elephants and even dolphins of the Ganges, although very rare!
We will be able to meet a large number of protected species inside the park: big Tibetan sheep, snow leopards, several deer species, wild yaks, different kinds of monkeys, Bengal tigers, wild buffaloes, Tibetan antelopes, wild cows, wild elephants, lynx, Ganges dolphins, single horned rhinos, jackals, rabbits, red bears, red panda …
A stay in the park allows to meet most of these species, although for some, the opportunity is more rare and represents a great privilege.
Besides the safari and many activities in the forest, we can discover the peaceful surrounding countryside. Mosaic of rice fields enamelled with mango orchards, bamboo groves and thatched villages, the landscape is quite striking!
The inhabitants of the small typical villages of the Tharu people continue to live in the middle of the rice fields, in this climate with tropical scents. Their most traditional habitat is made of straw and dried mud.
We offer you :
The best way to visit the jungle is undoubtedly to go on an elephant! It is from here that we will have the best chance of being able to observe the wild animals. This experience is absolutely unforgettable! We will be installed on a wooden platform, and the ‘driver’ will take us to some of the most unspoiled places.
However, for those who prefer the ‘modern’ version of the safari, many paths marked by the 4×4 will allow us to plunge into the jungle.
March in the forest
We will also have the opportunity to walk in the forest, but only with a specialized guide, which will lead us safely in different natural settings within the park. The ballad is unforgettable!
For bird lovers, we will have the opportunity to go in the middle of the jungle, inside the park, accompanied by an ornithologist who will present us the life of the birds of the corner has more secrets! He will make us notice the presence of the most discreet of the volatiles and give us many explanations. We will be able to serve as interpreters because these local professionals will not necessarily speak your language.
Boat trip on the Narayani River
A canoe trip on the Rapti or Narayani rivers will allow us to explore the park in a more relaxed way. We will be able to observe the waterfowl, the crocodiles and, with a lot of luck, to see a dolphin of the Ganges.
The boat will drop us downstream to an elephant breeding center that we can visit. We will be able to give them special cookies and this will allow nice photos.
Traditional evening of Terai
Several associations of the park organize performances of traditional Tharu songs and dances, including the famous stick dance, where in a big circle, the dancers clash all their clubs at the same time! Or other songs and dances, including that of the peacock, rather humorous! Although tourist, these evenings are successful and provide work to the inhabitants.
